Heng Carrot Cake’s owner has perfected the art of sweet and savoury carrot cakes. While the presentation may not be the most visually appealing, the taste is undeniably exceptional. Each dish is prepared fresh, imbued with the perfect smokiness from the wok hei. The black carrot cake, enhanced with soya sauce, stands out, though there are other options to explore. What’s surprising is that the carrot cake is steamed fresh on-site, very rare these days, resulting in a softness reminiscent of fried chwee kueh but bursting with radish flavor. Heng Carrot Cake arguably offers some of Singapore’s finest carrot cake. The fried oysters and oyster omelettes are also highly recommended.

Stall 28 Hengs is a bib gourmand winner. What I liked here is the fried carrot cake—it totally surprised me. I didn’t expect much since fried carrot cake is pretty common, but this one tasted homemade and had a really nice flavour. The black version was tasty, even if it wasn’t the prettiest. The oyster omelette was a win too, with big, juicy oysters that made the dish pop. Order both the carrot cake and the oyster omelette.
