  • The boneless chicken rice is convenient and delicious. No time wasted wrestling with bones, you can just dig right in.

  • This stall has been around since 1988, serving up generations of Singaporeans with their famous chicken rice.

  • I appreciate the convenience of boneless chicken, but I felt it lacked the depth of flavor compared to traditional Hainanese chicken rice. The rice was good and the service was friendly, though. There should have more chicken rice stalls in this list that are better than Tiong Bahru.

  • I think it’s decent. Nothing to shout about.

  • This chicken rice is a popular choice at Tiong Bahru Market. The chicken is cooked to a tender texture and coated with a flavorful combination of sesame oil and a special soy sauce. The rice is well-cooked and absorbs the chicken stock, adding a subtle savory flavor. Overall, this is a classic Singaporean dish executed well. It’s a good option for those seeking a simple but satisfying meal.

  • Visited Tiong Bahru market chicken rice after reading that they got the Michelin Bib Gourmand. I waited half an hour (had expected it) to get to the front of the queue. I ordered both the white chicken and roast chicken rice with a side of vegetables. The white chicken, breast meat, lacked the smoothness and tenderness expected. The roasted chicken leg meat, proved smoother and more tender. The rice itself was rather plain, and the soup leaned towards a saltier profile compared to others I’ve sampled. Surprisingly, the standout was the fresh and crunchy vegetables. If you’re at the market to try a variety of local dishes, go for it, otherwise you might want to reconsider waiting twenty minutes for this experience.

  • Two words. Fragrant and delicious. Each piece of chicken is coated with sesame oil and a special soy sauce, making it exceptionally tasty. The rice is nearly perfect, with each grain absorbing the rich chicken stock. This dish is a must-try at Tiong Bahru Market.

  • Long lines at this chicken rice place (Tiong Bahru market outlet awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand) but the queue moves fast. I got the steamed chicken, and added chicken extra gizzards and a braised egg. It’s extremely affordable at $5-6. The meal included a bowl of chicken soup, and the plate was garnished with parsley and salted vegetables. The chili sauce was spicy and flavourful, every chicken rice lover knows the chili makes all the difference.

The rice was nicely balanced, not too fluffy, not too oily. The chicken was very tender and silky, with the soy sauce and sesame oil enhancing its taste. The chili sauce added an extra kick, making the dish super yums. I thought the salted vegetables, which you don’t get at every chicken rice place, added a nice flavor and extra texture to the chicken and rice. Next time I will ask for more.

Well deserved award. Must try if in the area.
