For over four decades, Kwee Heng has built a reputation for its unwavering quality. The broth is particularly noteworthy, offering a soothing warmth with its rich, earthy, herbal notes and a savory-sweet complexity. The braised duck is meticulously prepared, achieving a tender texture with a slight chew, complemented by succulent layers of duck fat beneath the skin. Sliced thick and served boneless, it exudes a delightful meaty, salty savouriness. The accompanying rice, fluffy and partially infused with the braising gravy, presents a sweet and salty flavor. The dish is rounded out with crunchy cucumber slices and a soft, braised egg,…

Stingray Goh Chew Kee Seafood

Stingray Goh Chew Kee Seafood at Newton Hawker’s sambal stingray is impressively tender and flavourful, though a touch more heat would be perfect. The service is top-notch and the prices are fair. Crispy cereal prawns are delightfully crunchy with a generous cereal coating, and the salted egg chicken is solid too.

Heng Carrot Cake (Newton)

Heng Carrot Cake’s owner has perfected the art of sweet and savoury carrot cakes. While the presentation may not be the most visually appealing, the taste is undeniably exceptional. Each dish is prepared fresh, imbued with the perfect smokiness from the wok hei. The black carrot cake, enhanced with soya sauce, stands out, though there are other options to explore. R&B Express

The grilled chicken wings were a highlight—crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. The satay was decent, though not exceptional. What set this place apart was the peanut sauce: just right, not too oily, with peanut bits that were perfectly coarse. Come for the Satay and BBQ chicken wings.

22 Best Satay (Newton)

At Newton Hawker Centre, this stall whips up some pretty decent satay. The chicken skewers are meaty and tender, and the shrimp satay? Fresh and tasty. Both are well-marinated and grilled just right. Set A is a good deal at $28, with 20 satays and 6 large prawns, plus a complimentary ketupat. The friendly service is a bonus, and they even accept e-payments. Adam Rd 三哥 (San Ge) Prawn Noodle

Run by the elder brother of the famous Bib Gourmand Adam Road Noo Cheng Prawn Noodles, this stall serves up a mean bowl of prawn noodles. The soup’s got that perfect garlicky kick and just the right amount of sweetness. The kway teow with chili? Smooth and spicy, just how we like it. Pork belly’s tender and fresh, not that cheap frozen stuff. The prawns are big, juicy, and perfectly cooked. Only gripe? The pork lard could be crispier. Overall, it’s a prawn noodle fix that’s definitely worth coming back for!

Prices are reasonable, making it a great find.

Hajah Monah Kitchen

This place is a go-to for nasi lemak and nasi padang. They use basmati rice for their nasi lemak, which is a nice touch. The nasi padang options aren’t many, but each dish is cooked to perfection. Tips on visiting Newton Food Centre

  1. It’s right next to Newton MRT (NS21) – You can take the subway here, it is also walkable from the orchard road hotels.
  2. Bring your own napkins/tissue – You will not get any with your meals. However, even if you don’t have your own, most drink stalls at the hawker centre will sell them.
  3. Come with a plan – There are alot of stalls. Make a list of what you want beforehand.

  1. Newton hawker centre is a great place to get to know local Singapore food. Try chilli crab, sambal stingray, satay, carrot cake, oyster omelette and that durian dessert. Come in the late afternoon, evening when its alot cooler.

  2. Here are my top 5 must eats at Newton Hawker Centre.
    1) Alliance’s Chilli Crab – messy, spicy, and worth every bite.
    2) Heng’s Carrot Cake – crispy-soft, can’t go wrong.
    3) Hup Kee’s Orh Luak -Juicy oysters in crispy batter.
    4) Tew Chew’s Kway Chap – Comfort food done right.
    5) Bee Heng’s Popiah – fresh, crunchy, and seriously addictive.

  3. Newton food centre is one of the more spacious and breezy hawker center, good because less hot during peak hours. Seafood is good, many halal choices too. Location perfect, next to Newton MRT so easy to get to. So much variety for seafood, meat, veggies, you name it. Most stalls close around 10pm, if you know, you know. Great place for late-night food and drinks.

  4. Best if you’re in the mood for some noise, smoke and crowd. Newton food centre has some relatively cheap eats. Easy parking as well with a large public carpark right beside it. Would recommend.

  5. Hey, just a heads up if you’re coming to Newton hawker centere: try to skip the lunch hours if you can. It gets super quiet, and a lot of the stalls are closed. But don’t worry—there are still plenty of tasty options to choose from! If you’re looking for satay, I’d recommend checking out other spots since it’s not the best here. The prices are a bit on the higher side compared to other hawker centers, too. It’s a quick walk from the Newton MRT station, so it’s easy to get to. Definitely a must-visit when you’re in Singapore!

  7. Newton Hawker Centre has tons of food options, definitely worth checking out. Locals and tourists both love it, so that’s a good sign, right? The vibe’s really chill. The middle area is open for seating, and the stalls circle around, so you just pick your food and grab any empty table. It’s airy, not too crowded or loud, and surprisingly clean for a hawker spot.

Now, the food’s decent but not amazing. Kind of leaning toward Indian flavors and yeah, it’s pricey. The chicken wings with the Michelin nod were probably the best. Beer’s overpriced, but hey, still worth a try overall.

Must try dishes: Oyster omelette, chilli crab, and BBQ chicken wings.
