Be prepared to wait in line, because 88 Hong Kong Roast Stall is that good! This stall offers some of the most delicious and authentic Cantonese-style bbq in Singapore.

The wait is definitely worth it for the succulent roast meats. The crispy skin on the roast pork is perfection, and the meat itself is juicy and flavorful. The char siew is another highlight – perfectly caramelized with a touch of char and melt-in-your-mouth tender. They also offer other favorites like roast duck, all cooked to perfection with delicious crispy skin and moist meat.

Stumbled upon this amazing place recently and it definitely impressed! The star of the show was their char siew. They even let you choose how fatty you like it, which is a nice touch. We went for the “special cut” char siew, and it was melt-in-your-mouth tender with perfectly caramelized edges.

The wonton noodles were another winner. Springy egg noodles paired with delicious wontons and a flavorful broth.

Overall, a fantastic find! Highly recommend checking this place out if you’re in the neighborhood

Disappointed by the Hype

While Chatterbox is known for its legendary chicken rice, my recent experience fell short of expectations. The chicken itself was overcooked, resulting in a dry texture. Honestly, it wasn’t much better than what you’d find at a hawker center stall.

Now, I understand Chatterbox has a reputation for its premium offerings, but for the price, the experience felt entirely uninspired and forgettable. Honestly, nothing justified the high cost. If you’re looking for truly exceptional chicken rice, I wouldn’t recommend Chatterbox based on this visit. There are many other fantastic options in Singapore that offer better value for money.

Let’s be real, Tian Tian gets a lot of hype. While the chicken rice is definitely above average (better than your typical hawker stall), I’d only wait in line for it if there wasn’t one (lucky me, no queue today!).

If you’re nearby and there’s no queue, sure, give Tian Tian a try. The chicken rice is good. But if there’s a line, don’t sweat it. There are plenty of other tasty (and maybe even cheaper) chicken rice options around Maxwell.
