Long lines at this chicken rice place (Tiong Bahru market outlet awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand) but the queue moves fast. I got the steamed chicken, and added chicken extra gizzards and a braised egg. It’s extremely affordable at $5-6. The meal included a bowl of chicken soup, and the plate was garnished with parsley and salted vegetables. The chili sauce was spicy and flavourful, every chicken rice lover knows the chili makes all the difference.

The rice was nicely balanced, not too fluffy, not too oily. The chicken was very tender and silky, with the soy sauce and sesame oil enhancing its taste. The chili sauce added an extra kick, making the dish super yums. I thought the salted vegetables, which you don’t get at every chicken rice place, added a nice flavor and extra texture to the chicken and rice. Next time I will ask for more.

Well deserved award. Must try if in the area.

Rice quality is a hit or miss. Sometimes mushy sometimes perfect but ah boy’s chicken rice is cheap and if you factor that in, I think this is definitely a good plate of chicken rice. fragrant and not too oily. generous servings of chicken, and lots of vegetables.

Tried the nasi lemak, berempah and rendang. I wished the rice was more Lemak but overall great food.

Best supper place in the north!

Adam road basmati rice nasi lemak is legendary. While it doesnt smack you as hard as the malaysian style ayam berempah’s, Selera Rasa serves a damn bloody good plate of lemak!

East side best side! Katong chicken rice is a must try if you’re around the area. Probably legendary status at the time of this writing.

Used to work at Beach centre, and this was just 20 steps away literally. Didn’t know chin chin was a top 10er but I guess that explains why I thought they had pretty good chicken rice everytime I ate there. Thumbs up!

My 2nd favourite chicken rice since I live close by. If I can’t get my hands on BTK then this is where I go lol. TBH, the kampong chicken, while it has its merits, doesnt quite satisfy as much as a proper fat chicken since its significantly smaller and less meatier. Also, the rice, while nice, lacks the nuanced fragrance found in BTK. To each his own!

Boon Tong Kee gets my vote. Consistently good quality chicken rice. There is something in their rice that makes it so flavourful. /shrugs

“Stumbled” upon Dickson Nasi Lemak earlier this year. I read about them somewhere so thought might as well try it out. The rice smells great, but the real star is the ayam berempah. Crispy outside, juicy inside. And their chili? Whew, it’s spicy! Worth a try.
