The kampung chicken was juicy and flavorful, a step up from your average chicken rice. Not too greasy, perfectly steamed, and a great portion size. Definitely worth a try if you’re in the area.

It had been a while, but the chicken was just as amazing as I remembered – juicy and flavorful. The rice portion could be a tad bigger, but their other dishes are perfect for creating a satisfying spread. The steamed chicken rice was divine, with the chicken so soft it practically fell apart. The chili sauce was the perfect finishing touch. Overall, a fantastic experience! Highly recommend this place for anyone craving delicious chicken rice.

The chicken rice at Five Star was decent, but I found it a bit bland compared to other places. The chicken itself was cooked well, but the rice lacked the fragrant depth I was looking for.

My go-to spot for a simple and satisfying chicken rice fix. Their steamed kampong chicken is incredibly flavorful and juicy, a true testament to the quality of the ingredients. The rice is cooked to perfection – not too dry, not too mushy, with a subtle chicken flavor. They offer all the classic accompaniments like ginger sauce and chili sauce. The service is friendly and efficient. Overall, a great choice for anyone who appreciates the classics done right.

Happy to see this chicken rice shop still thriving! Despite the crowd, I only had a short wait for a table. It had been a while since my last visit, but the chicken remains delicious – just as good as I remembered. The portion of rice could be a bit bigger, but the zi char options are a great way to complement your meal. While the fish maw soup was flavorful, it leaned more towards a seafood soup with a strong ginger taste.

We’ve been longtime fans of this popular chicken rice restaurant, especially with how convenient it is being close to home. They specialize in kampung chicken rice, and we always have a hard time deciding between the steamed and roasted options. Personally, I lean towards the roasted chicken – it’s incredibly tender and melts in your mouth. But hey, both are delicious! One of the best parts about this place is the wide variety of zi char dishes on the menu, making it perfect for a family meal.

I initially thought they excelled only at chicken rice—and they did, with bone-y but tender chicken, fragrant steamed rice infused with chicken stock, and excellent condiments. However, every dish we tried exceeded expectations. The salted egg pork chunks were incredibly succulent. Their large shrimp with broccoli, mushrooms, and carrots was both crunchy, juicy and burting with flavour. Overall, this coffee shop gem along East Coast Road offers above-average fare at very nice price, with comfortable minimal but comfortable outdoor seating. 5* for five stars.

I tried the Five Star chicken rice and was pleasantly surprised by the kampong chicken. It was tender and refreshing, especially the thigh meat. The salted egg pork ribs were delicious, while the salted egg squid tasted more like regular calamari with a hint of salted egg. If you visit, I recommend the signature set with chicken thigh. Skip the prawns, which were over-fried and dry, and the handmade tofu, which tasted slightly sour. The braised pork belly was decent—tender pork skin but some tough parts. The salted egg pork ribs are worth a try.

My 2nd favourite chicken rice since I live close by. If I can’t get my hands on BTK then this is where I go lol. TBH, the kampong chicken, while it has its merits, doesnt quite satisfy as much as a proper fat chicken since its significantly smaller and less meatier. Also, the rice, while nice, lacks the nuanced fragrance found in BTK. To each his own!
